Ancient civilizations did not have the luxury of supplements, and so a recent scientific finding has revealed the oldest known case of heart disease.

National Jewish Health Faculty Present Latest Findings at American Thoracic Society 2011

Thousands of physicians, scientists and others will gather May 13-18, 2011 in Denver to exchange the latest findings, clinical advice and other lung-related information at the 2011 American Thoracic Society International Conference. Below are a few highlighted presentations by National Jewish Health faculty:

 

Max Seibold, PhD, will extend findings recently reported in The New England Journal of Medicine, which identified a common genetic variant associated with a 7 to 22 fold increased risk for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and familial interstitial pneumonia.

David Brindle | Small step towards more independence for disabled people

The Law Commission’s final proposals for reform of 60 years’ worth of adult social care statutes for England and Wales, are to be welcomed. It set out to review all legislation enabling services to be provided to older people, disabled people and those with mental health problems. There is now a much clearer sense than in the consultative plans that what is needed is a framework capable of accommodating further developments in personalisation and self-directed care and support.

It is hugely significant that the proposals are based firmly on principles that the individual, where capable, is the best judge of their own wellbeing and that their views, wishes and feelings should be followed wherever practicable and appropriate.

Poor Sleep Tied to Incontinence, Impotence

SATURDAY, May 14 Sleep problems are associated with erectile dysfunction and urologic conditions such as incontinence, according to the results of two new studies.

The first study examined the relationship between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and erectile dysfunction. OSA is a disorder that occurs during sleep, in which a person’s upper airway temporarily collapses, causing them to stop breathing.
